Posted in Uncategorized on January 5, 2009 by illycut

allitemsIn attempt to make a return to the blog world, I have prepared a pretty decent guide to not only installing HIDs but disabling DRLs.  These are two things I know everyone wants, so lets get right to it.

In this DIY I plan to get you guys shining with HIDs. You’ll greatly increase nighttime visibility, and up your car’s “sex-appeal”.  Follow the jump for details.

Lancer News : Toyo Evolution X

Posted in Uncategorized on November 3, 2008 by illycut

Its that time of year again, SEMA show time that is.  As the week goes by ill be shooting some photos of the latest in customized Mitsubishis.  We’ll start the week with Vivid Racing’s Evolution 10, which will appear in the Toyo Tires booth.

Coated in a green paint job (same color as a porsche GT3 RS) they have a new  body kit, AME tracer 18×9 wheels, and toyo tires of course.  I believe they’ve added a few bolt ons as well, which brings it to an estimated 350hp.

Now i wont cast my vote , or state my opinion on this yet, because i havent seen it in real life.  Once I get a chance to see it in the flesh, ill definitly let you guys know if this is a legit concept or not.  Off the top of my head? I think it looks kinda silly, but ill wait to see the real thing before I post with any negative commentary.

Lancer News : Evolution Premium Package

Posted in Lancer News on October 28, 2008 by illycut

We all know that this time around OEMs made a valient effort to move their “boy racer” vehicles up-market.  Despite that fact, both the Subaru Sti and Mitsubishi Evolution have flashy exterior parts and the interior materials don’t exactly appeal to upscale buyers.  However, Mitsubishi has decided to step their game up. Just recently in Japan, they launched the premium pkg for Lancer Evo GSR.  While this isn’t exactly news for the US, do expect this pkg to find its way stateside, specifically for the Evolution MR, Mitsu’s up-market target vehicle.  [to find out more about the package, follow the jump]

The Hiatus

Hey, sorry its been so long guys.  Been doing alot of work on other projects and on this Lancer.   I’ll be going to SEMA next week and I plan to bring back information about the latest products available for the Lancer.  So look out for that.  Also,  I never got all my dyno sheets from WORKS, so i guess ill just write a detailed article about the dyno results from my trip.   Stay tuned for updates, including “The easiest way to connect HID’s”, and “Pullin’ G’s…WORKS suspension install”.

Mod : Flashin’ Lights pt. 2 [i see the light]

Posted in Uncategorized on October 20, 2008 by illycut

Sorry its been so long guys, but folks have been slackin on sending my dyno charts, and i need those to make adequate videos for you guys.  Anyways, I just had an epiphany and i figured I should write about it.  Since I don’t have an oscilloscope or the time to analyze the DRL circuit ( so i can make a proper circuit to run HIDs), I have come up with alternate solutions.  I plan to use an independent relay switch to turn the ballasts on/off.  Here’s the trick….the ballasts will be triggered by the parking lamp lead, because if you use the low beam harness as the remote trigger the DRL system will see a load, which in turn will lead it to act of place and make the ballasts flicker.  So the UPSIDE……I’ll be rockin’ HIDs this weekend….DOWNSIDE….you only use one click on the headlights switch inside the car now, which is exactly factory, but hey, works for me. I’ll post video and instructions when im done with it.

Mod : HIDs..Flashin’…Lights (lights *echo*)

Posted in Modifications on October 8, 2008 by illycut

So I decided to take some time to install my HID kit today.  Although I didn’t have high hopes for success, I did plan to at least learn more about the lighting system, and from that perspective I did quite well.  Most of you know that hooking up HIDs to the Lancer is not a “plug n’ play” task, and we certainly owe that difficulty to Mitsubishi’s ridiculous DRL system.  Long story short, for those who don’t know, when you hook up a set of HIDs to this car using the stock 2006 harness you get a flickering light.  Why is that you may ask?…well i THINK its due to the voltage.

Kickin It @ WORKS

Posted in Informational on October 4, 2008 by illycut

I chopped together a little video of the WORKS facility.  Their setup at Infineon Speedway is really impressive and advantageous.  They have an extensive work area, access to the track for parts testing, and some established neighboring companies that they can work with too.  As for you and I, the consumers, WORKS has a waiting room with a big screen TV that plays Best Motoring videos, and there is… well.. the track.  There was tons to do.  I didn’t do the greatest job capturing my experience there, but here’s the video.   Look out for my Air Filter review w/dyno sheets later this week.

Mod Review : WORKS Exhaust pt 1.

Posted in Modifications on October 2, 2008 by illycut

The next step in my modification process is the exhaust.  I decided on the WORKS axle-back piece. Its a nice an simple installation without any chance of messing up smog test capability.  I recently put together some of the footage from my visit to WORKS, and while I haven’t completely compiled the installation video, I do have video of the aftermath, and an Ape Factor rating.  I know this is what most you guys are looking for, so enjoy.  Follow the jump for more on this product.

Lancer News : Sportback Previewed for Paris

Posted in Lancer News on September 25, 2008 by illycut

Everyone has seen the concept vehicle, and it was fairly impressive, but now reality hits, and it’s not so bad.   The photos are definilty part of the reason the vehicle looks stunning, but I must hand it to Mitsu, they executed this vehicle very well considering the restraints they had in terms of sheet metal development.  Except for the rear 3/4 view, you might actually mistake the back half of this car for completely new unique sheet metal (which its not, the new part of the car doesnt start until after the rear door).  [background version of this image available in gallery]

Mod : WORKS Filter pt. 1 [w/video]

Posted in Modifications on September 23, 2008 by illycut

I have been driving around with the WORKS filter installed for about 2 weeks now, and I am pleased with the results.  Within this post a video of the filter install can be found.  I originally had video taped the install 2 weeks ago, but it came out too dark.  So i just re-did the install over the weekend, and i sure am
glad I did because my first shot at the
install took 5mins to long.
